By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued a statement urging Venezuela to respect the Sovereignty of Guyana and International law.
The UDP expressed support for Guyana and joined the “call of the CARICOM Nations, the Commonwealth Nations, the Organization of American States (OAS), Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU) and International Democracy Union (IDU), for Venezuela to respect international law and abide by 1899 Arbitral Award, the 1966 Geneva Agreement, the 2018 decision of the UN Sec Gen and the December 1, 2023 decision of the ICJ in order to maintain peace and stability in the region.”
The UDP further urged Venezuela to de-escalate and heed the call of the many voices including friendly Nations that have stood with her but are completely against any act that threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana.
“We encourage Venezuela to return to the path of peaceful resolution to be adjudicated by the International Court of Justice,” the UDP said.
The UDP reiterated its call for an amicable juridical resolution of disputes between nations.
