By Zoila Palma: From July 8 to 10, Belize joined over 40 countries at the Giga Connectivity Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The forum brings together key decision-makers from Ministries of Education, ICT authorities, Communications Regulatory Agencies, and Universal Service Agencies to accelerate school connectivity and bridge the digital divide worldwide.
The event focuses on reviewing progress in connecting schools, addressing challenges, and sharing practical lessons learned from various countries’ experiences.
Belize’s delegation included Dian Maheia, CEO of the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology; Leroy Almendarez, CEO of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy & Logistics; Namrita Balani, Director of Science & Technology at the Ministry of Education; and Natasha Mantock, Education Officer for UNICEF Belize.
The delegation represented Belize’s commitment to the Giga Initiative, a UNICEF and ITU partnership aimed at connecting every school to the internet by 2030, making digital learning accessible to all children.
