By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: UNICEF Belize and the Government of Belize continue to support Community Health Workers (CHW).
With support from the Republic of Korea, UNICEF Belize is supporting the Ministry of Health and Wellness with key actions to improve the community health worker programme.
Those include the review of the Community Health Worker manual, the digitization of the Community Health Information System and the establishment of a functional national georeferenced Community Health Worker’s master list/registry which will help to uniquely identify all CHWs in the country.
Recently the Government increased the monthly stipends of Community Health Workers from $100BZD to $500BZD as testament of the commitment and recognition of the invaluable role of CHWs.
