By Aaron Humes: Belize City witnessed a remarkable show of unity at the Citizen’s Parade this morning from the United Democratic Party (UDP).
UDP Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow and Opposition Leader Tracy Panton surprised onlookers by sharing the same pickup truck during the procession, alongside esteemed senior party statesman Michael Finnegan.
The Party is moving ahead to its National Convention due in November after internal divisions wrecked its chances in the March general election. Panton emerged the stronger with more support in the National Assembly although Barrow retains the Party leadership after a court case dismissed last October’s National Convention attempt.
The unexpected appearance of Barrow, Panton, and Finnegan in the same “truck-back” has sparked discussions about whether the party can truly be “United” in the future. It will celebrate its 52nd anniversary later this month.
