By Zoila Palma: On July 7, 2025, the Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation unveiled a new UNESCO World Heritage Site sign at Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve.
The event marks the first in a national effort to install signage at all seven sites within the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, as part of a broader branding and awareness campaign.
Minister Andre Perez praised the collaboration between government and conservation partners, supported by the Mesoamerican Reef Fund (MAR Fund), calling it a milestone in promoting and protecting Belize’s natural heritage.
Speakers included representatives from the Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development, the MAR Fund, the Coastal Zone Management Authority, and the Ministry.
The initiative aims to boost public awareness and global recognition of Belize’s biodiversity and its importance for future generations.
