Unemployed 25-year-old man sentenced to 3 months for crack pipe possession

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 25-year-old Belize City man has been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of utensils used for smoking controlled drugs.

Manuel Guerra, an unemployed resident of Mangrove Street, appeared in court on Friday, May 29, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Guerra was sentenced to three months at the Belize Central Prison. The court noted that this was not his first drug-related conviction, as his record shows several previous convictions for similar offenses.

According to police, Guerra was detained around 3:05 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, while officers were on mobile patrol on Williams Fonseca Street.

Police say two officers were in a marked police vehicle when their attention was drawn to Guerra, who was reportedly walking on the street carrying a plastic bag containing Belikin pint bottles. Upon seeing the police, Guerra allegedly attempted to hide his face.

Officers stopped and searched him, and police say they found a silver metal pipe with wire mesh inside in his left hand. Police suspected the pipe was being used for smoking controlled drugs.

Guerra was subsequently charged and taken to court, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced.
