UNDP, FAO and partner organizations hand over 12 motorcycles and computer equipment to Ministry of Agriculture

By Zoila Palma:  The UNDP, FAO of the United Nations and KOICA, the Korea International Cooperation Agency, handed over computer equipment and 6 motorcycles, a donation valued at over $80,000 to the Ministry, following previous donations of drones, cell phone equipment and a UTV.

These form part of a project aimed at enhancing the Ministry’s data collection abilities, which are critical to providing updated information for projects and coordination with collaborating partners and agencies.

At the same time OIRSA, the International Regional Plant and Animal Health Organization, also donated 6 motorcycles, intended to assist the Ministry’s Extension Service with the Screwworm Eradication program.

The donation of motorcycles follows previous donations of medicines and equipment used in the Eradication program.

Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of State Alex Balona and CEO Servulo Baeza were present for the handing over and all spoke to the use the equipment will have in enhancing data collection and reaching farmers in remote areas, as well as in making the work of the Extension Service easier.

The equipment will be deployed to the 6 districts across the country.
