Under 19 Belize Men’s National Team arrive well in Honduras for UNCAF FIFA Forward U19 Men’s Tournament

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 19 Belize Men’s National Team (U19 BMNT) arrived well in Tegucigalpa, Honduras where they’ll compete in the 2024 Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA Forward Tournament which runs from Friday, January to Thursday, January 25.

The 20 U19 BMNT players travelled by boat on Wednesday morning to Puerto Cortés from where they headed to the Honduran capital.

Belize will be playing in Group B against Costa Rica, Guatemala, and invited guests Cuba. Group A consists of Honduras, Panamá, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Belize is kicking off against Costa Rica on January 19 at 3:00 pm. The U19 BMNT will then measure up against Guatemala on January 21 at 11:00 am. The third and final group game will be against Cuba on January 23 at 11:00 am.

The winners of both groups qualify for the Final. The other teams play against the same ranked teams from the other group in ranking games on January 25.

The UNCAF tournament will be played at the Olimpia High Performance Center (Centro de Alto Rendimiento – CAR CDO) in Tegucigalpa. Fields 1 and 2 (Canchas #1 and #2) are natural grass while Field 3 (Cancha #3) is artificial turf.

The UNCAF FIFA Forward U19 Men’s Tournament is a preparatory tournament for the Concacaf Under 20 Championship Qualifiers which will be played in Managua, Nicaragua from February 23 to March 3, 2024. The U20 BMNT is playing the qualifiers in Group A against Cuba, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, and Nicaragua.

The U19 BMNT played four practice matches, losing twice to both Guatemala and Honduras.
