By Rubén Morales Iglesias: St Catherine Academy (SCA) clinched a semifinal berth with their second consecutive victory at the Under-18 CODICADER Games in San Salvador, El Salvador, on Saturday afternoon.
SCA finished Group B in second place with a 2-1 record, following their 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-13, 25-17) win over Honduras’ International School Tegucigalpa. Guatemala’s Colegio de Señoritas Sagrado Corazón won the group undefeated with a 3-0 record.
SCA will play the winners of the Nicaragua-El Salvador game in the semifinals on Sunday. Colegio de Señoritas Sagrado Corazón will play the losers of that game.
El Salvador’s Colegio Sagrado Corazón and Nicaragua’s Colegio Nuestra Señora del Rosario will determine the Group A winners on Saturday evening.After two sets, they were tied 1-1.
On Friday, SCA overcame Costa Rica’s Liceo Atenas 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 17-15) in their second game of the tournament. They had started out on Thursday with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) loss to Guatemala’s Colegio de Señoritas Sagrado Corazón (Sacred Heart Girls School).
Meanwhile, St. John’s College (SJC), who are 1-1, are battling Nicaragua’s Colegio Esquipulas for a berth in the semifinals. The Salvadoran Sports Institute reported that after three sets, the match SJC leads 2-1, and are up 15-11 in the fourth set.
