By Aaron Humes: Tracy Taegar-Panton, the newly elected leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), faces significant effort to clean up at the party’s headquarters ahead of the first post-convention press conference, due Tuesday.

The new leadership team is expected to discuss plans for the party’s immediate future as it seeks to heal post-convention friction and arm itself to take on the People’s United Party Government.

The leader’s office, once a hub for press briefings by former leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow, is now devoid of its iconic pictures, leaving only a solitary image of Hugo Patt, whose expression appears grim more than inviting. Compounding the challenge, the organization is facing overdue utility bills, emphasizing the need for swift action to restore its operational capacity.

Panton addressed the financial concerns head-on, expressing optimism that resources would be found to rejuvenate the party’s headquarters. “Many UDP stalwarts have already shown their willingness to contribute,” she stated. “We are welcoming any support from anyone who can assist in getting our headquarters back to a standard we can operate from.”

Panton was also questioned about the back-and-forth activities between her faction and the former leader’s team, particularly regarding the contentious lock changes at the party’s office. In response, Panton emphasized the necessity of their actions. “Hindsight is 20/20,” she acknowledged. “At that time, we were compelled to confront the blatant disregard for the party’s constitution and processes. We took action without regrets and are now focused on moving forward.”
