By Zoila Palma: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will stage a protest on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in front of the Social Security Board in Belize City.
The protest is part of the UDP’s continued opposition to Belize Telemedia Limited’s (BTL) proposed acquisition of Speednet/SMART, which the party says would harm competition and the public interest.
The UDP is calling on Belizeans to stand up and speak out against the proposed deal.
Last week, the UDP held a similar protest outside BTL’s headquarters in Belize City.
“The fire sale of Speednet/SMART to BTL cannot be allowed to go through. Stay awake, Belize,” Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton said.
