By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Former UDP Area Representatives Omar Figueroa and Elodio Aragon Jr., along with their delegates, have expressed their support for Tracy Taegar Panton as the interim leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Both UDP standard bearers submitted letters to Shyne Barrow this morning.
Figueroa’s letter notes that members of the Cayo North executive have raised concerns about the current state of party leadership, which they believe has hindered progress since the November 2020 elections.
The letter highlights ongoing internal struggles and emphasizes the need for a unified effort to restore stability.
It calls for Panton to act as Interim Leader and stresses the importance of collaboration among the 31 constituencies to achieve a permanent solution.
“We join with the call of delegates as displayed on October 20, 2024. Through this medium, we recognize Hon. Tracy Taegar Panton as the Interim leader,” Figueroa’s letter said.
Aragon also submitted a letter since he and delegates from the Orange Walk East Constituency echoed this sentiment, declaring their support for Panton’s leadership.
Aragon’s letter noted that the decision followed discussions within the constituency and said that Panton is the most suitable candidate to lead the UDP into the next general election.
“At this time, we believe that Tracy Panton is the leader who can best serve the UDP and lead the charge into the next general elections,” Aragon said.
