This newly appointed team, comprised of experienced politicians, is tasked with holding the government accountable and offering alternative solutions to national issues. Their diverse backgrounds in various fields highlight the UDP’s focus on addressing key areas affecting the Belizean populace.
The Shadow Ministers and their portfolios are as follows: Tracy Taegar Panton – Office of the Prime Minister, Finance, Economic Transformation, Investments, Commerce, Consumer Affairs, Enterprise, & E-Governance with Cecil Jenkins and Carlos Zetina as proto-Ministers of State for Commerce, Consumer Affairs & Enterprise and E-Governance; Hugo Patt – DPM, Natural Resources, Petroleum & Mining; Miguel Guerra – Agriculture, Food Security, New Growth Industries and Aldon Tasher as proto-Minister of State; Lee Mark Chang – Infrastructure Development & Housing; Godwin Haylock – Tourism, Civil Aviation, Diaspora Relations, Culture, Youth & Sports with Dale Pelayo as proto-Minister of State for the latter three portfolios; Senator Patrick Faber – Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Education, Science, & Technology, with Martin Rivera as proto-Minister of State for Science & Technology; Senator Sheena Pitts as Attorney General & Constitutional Affairs; Senator Gabriel Zetina – Blue Economy & Marine Conservation.
Also appointed are the following: Khalid Belisle – Immigration, Labor & Governance; Dr. Omar Vasquez – Health & Wellness, and Dr. Abraham Flowers, Minister of State; Dr. Omar Figueroa – Sustainable Development & Climate Change; Marlo Perera – Solid Waste Management; Alphius Gillett – Disaster Risk Management; Mark O’Brien – Public Utilities & Energy Security and Alobi Young as proto-Minister of State/Energy Security. Edward Broaster – Home Affairs and Citizen Security; Frank Polonio – Rural Transformation, Community Development & Local Government with Fredy Cantillano as proto-Minister of State/Community Development and Angelie Perez as proto-Minister of State/Local Government; Alfonso Sanchez – Indigenous, & Religious Affairs; German Tillett – Transport & Logistics and Albert Fernandez proto-Minister of State; Antonio Herrera – National Defense & Border Security; Earth Lopez – Human Development, Family Support & Gender Affairs; and Andi Yam, Public Service & Union Affairs.
Kerry Belisle is proto-Cabinet Secretary and Denielle Neal is Chief Press Officer.
Coming off a successful National Convention, the UDP intends to revitalize its image and reaffirm its commitment to address pressing issues such as health care, education, and environmental challenges through this newly appointed team.
As the Shadow Cabinet begins its work, it remains to be seen how it will reshape the political discourse in Belize and respond to the ongoing challenges faced by the nation.
