By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is mourning the loss of Elroy Wade, former Chairman of Hope Creek Village, Stann Creek District, who passed away after a “devastating explosion” at his workplace in Silk Grass Village, also in Stann Creek.
According to a statement from the party, “Wade sustained extensive burn injuries to more than 60 percent of his body…caused by a malfunctioning butane gas system …. Despite courageous efforts to save him, his injuries were far too severe.”
The UDP describes him as a “dedicated servant of the people, a steady, principled voice in local governance” and a “man deeply committed to the development and well-being of Hope Creek and its residents”. It declared his passing “not only a loss to his family and friends, but to the wider Stann Creek District and to Belize as a whole.”
The party extends condolences to Mr. Wade’s family, loved ones, and the communities of Hope Creek and Silk Grass.
