By Aaron Humes: Leader of the UDP Moses “Shyne” Barrow has issued congratulations to Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, whose Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) won a third consecutive term in office in elections on Wednesday.
Barrow counts Holness as a mentor “gracious with his time and wisdom,” “a masterclass in consistently leading a team that delivers on promises, and calls his Government’s performance “superb.”
Barrow sent well wishes to the people of Jamaica and congratulations for a fair, free and peaceful election and further best wishes to the new JLP government, reduced from 49 to 34 seats, to “continue to deliver on the promises made to the people of Jamaica.”
Holness in turn expressed his own “heartfelt thanks.” He joins a relatively small group of Caribbean leaders who have won three or more terms in Government, among them Belize’s own Prime Minister Dean Barrow. The UDP and JLP are members of the center-right political grouping the Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU).
