By Breaking Belize News Staff: The saga surrounding who all were responsible for the shooting death of Wilson Hernandez is no closer to being resolved as UDP Leader Shyne Barrow has joined mounting calls for Dalia Vellos to be charged for ‘Conspiracy to commit manslaughter’. So far, and following the directives of the Director of Public Prosecution, only Christy Guzman, the niece of Dalia Vellos, has been charged for manslaughter.
After expressing “deepest sympathies to the family of Wilson Hernandez”, Barrow said he shared the concerns of the Hernandez family and others “who find it difficult to accept that the person who passed her license weapon to her niece who then fired the fatal shot that ended Mr Hernandez’s life was not also charged for conspiracy to commit manslaughter”.
Vellos is the common-law-wife of Wilson Hernandez and the shooting occurred after he had confronted her after she came home from a night out socializing. Hernandez’s family claims that Vellos came home at around five o’clock on Sunday morning and the argument began after Hernandez found a box of condoms in Vellos’ purse with one condom missing from the pack.
According to Barrow he read the statements from family members and these statements allege that the shooting act was premeditated on the part of the person who handed her licensed weapon to the alleged killer. “While that may be debatable based on the investigation, what cannot be disputed is the video that shows Ms Vellos handing her weapon to her niece moments before the killing,” claims Barrow.
“All of the lawyers I’ve spoken with say that is a conspiracy charge”, Barrow noted.
The UDP Leader went on to support the family’s claim that “Ms. Vellos allegedly has connections to high ranking police” and her niece was even “arraigned without handcuffs”.
Barrow ended by saying “based on the evidence presented thus far, I support the family’s call for Ms Vellos to be charged with manslaughter conspiracy. The law must be applied equally and justice must be done for all, the victims and accused.”
