By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party and members of the Albert Community have extended congratulations to His Grace, the Most Reverend Philip S. Wright, new regional Archbishop of the Anglican Church, recognizing the moment as a source of national pride.

The Anglican Diocese of Belize celebrated a historic milestone as Bishop Wright of Belize was elevated to Archbishop, Primate and Metropolitan of the Church in the Province of the West Indies.

It marks the first time a Belizean has been elected by his peers to the distinguished office, which oversees Anglican provinces across the Caribbean region.

“We give thanks to God for a time such as this. This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it,” the UDP statement read. “May God the Father continue to shower the Archbishop with abundant blessings. May His Grace be strengthened by divine wisdom, guided by compassion, and sustained by God’s infinite grace as he leads the Church and serves God’s people.”

“Today, we acknowledge and celebrate the goodness of God,” the statement continued.

Archbishop Wright’s election is being hailed as a significant moment for both Belize and the wider Anglican Communion.
