By Aaron Humes: In a formal letter to the Election and Boundaries Commission, Christopher P. Malcolm, representing executive members of the United Democratic Party (UDP), including party leader Moses Barrow, has raised significant concerns regarding a recent media report published by Hot Off the Press. The letter, addressed to Chairman Oscar Sabido Puga, questions the legitimacy of Hot off the Press report that the Commission is recognizing two factions within the UDP and seeks clarification on the Commission’s authority in this matter.

With the courts to initiate legal proceedings surrounding the status of Tracey Taegar in the party and charges of contempt on Friday, Malcolm emphasizes the need for the Commission to exercise caution, urging it to avoid decisions that could interfere with judicial reviews taking place in the High Court.

Referencing a recent judgment by High Court Justice Tawanda Hondora, which affirms Moses Barrow’s leadership of the UDP for the Commission’s purposes, the letter stresses that any misrepresentation could lead to serious implications for the party’s integrity and the overall electoral process. Malcolm urges the Commission to publish a statement clarifying its stance to mitigate any potential confusion arising from the report.

Malcolm called for prompt action to preserve the integrity of both the Commission and the electoral process as the country approaches critical elections.

The Commission has not publicly responded to Malcolm’s letter.
