By Zoila Palma: Today, the United Democratic Party (UDP) extended congratulations to the newly elected Executive Board of the Belize Federation of Fishers (BFF), following elections held at the Federation’s Executive Managing Committee meeting on November 26, 2025.
The UDP salutes new leadership:
Chairperson: Nestor Lopez;
Vice Chairperson: Hopeton Westby;
Secretary: Anna Ramirez;
Treasurer: Guillermo Carrillo
“Belize’s fishing sector is a pillar of our coastal communities and national economy. Fishers and their families work hard every day to sustain livelihoods, strengthen food security, and contribute to Belize’s development. Strong, accountable representation through the BFF is essential to advancing the interests of fishers, improving working conditions, and promoting sustainable management of our marine resources,” the UDP noted.
The UDP expressed enthusiasm as it engages with the BFF in support of policies that protect fishers’ rights, expand opportunities, and safeguard the sea that sustains us all.
