By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the United Democratic Party (UDP) issued a statement calling out Town Administrator from the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council Ismael Perez for issuing “Stop Orders” on work being executed by the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council.
The UDP says that the law outlines the provisions of said dissolution.
“It is imperative that the integrity of the Council and the operational effectiveness NOT be compromised during the few days that any such dissolution becomes effective. The law is clear and specific in defining the legal boundaries within which the roles and responsibilities of the Town Administrator must be confined.
Today, in attempting to disrupt the daily operations of the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Towns, the Town Administrator has overstepped his legal authority and is acting in a manner that violates the law.
Essential duties such as picking up garbage, cleaning streets and drains, among others, must continue uninterrupted so that the residents of are not negatively affected during the short period when the Council remains dissolved,” the UDP claimed.
According to the UDP, Perez attempted to prevent over fifty employees from executing their daily programmed duties.
“The decision is one that aims to threaten hard working municipal employees and is clearly malicious and politically driven with ulterior motives,” the UDP added.
The UDP further called on the Ministry of Local Government to immediately suspend the Town Administrator and make provisions for the day to day operations of the Council to continue unimpeded until March 7th when the newly elected Mayor resumes administrative responsibility of the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council.
“The Administrator is acting in a manner that is illegal. He should be held responsible for violating our laws.
We are a law abiding country and our men and women in these vital positions must always place our country above and beyond their personal political affiliations. The Administrator has clearly failed and should immediately recues himself from administering the affairs of the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council,” the UDP said.
