By Aaron Humes: After the Government transferred much of its business from Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) to Speednet Communications years ago, the Opposition United Democratic Party claims a deal is in the works for the former to acquire the latter.
Smart made a little more than a million dollars in profits according to Lee Mark Chang, but BTL is being asked to take on hundreds of millions in new debt to take on the company that tried to cripple it.
Chang called for an independent evaluation and public interest report and added that Belizeans must reject the deal: “Dehn no di play with fi dehn money; dehn di play with fi we money!”
The Government has avoided comment while BTL has said it is looking for opportunities in the telecom sector.
