By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U20 Belize Men’s National Team (U20 BMNT) went into halftime trailing 5–2 against Suriname after a chaotic, goal‑packed first half in their Concacaf U20 Qualifiers opener at Estadio Miguel Chocorron Buitrago in Managua.
Belize made the perfect start in the 4th minute, when captain Devin Garbutt capitalized on a failed defensive clearance and finished inside the box to give Belize a 1–0 lead. But Suriname responded with a sustained attacking surge led by standout forward Xavi Dors.
Dors equalized in the 17th minute from the penalty spot after a foul on a Suriname striker. He struck again in the 24th minute from open play to put Suriname ahead. Two minutes later, in the 26th minute, Suriname extended their lead to 3–1 after an own goal by Anderson Pixabaj. The ball bounced off Pixabaj after a clearance by goalkeeper Marcus Ingram.
Dors completed his hat‑trick in the 31st minute, pushing the score to 4–1. Belize answered quickly in the 33rd minute, when Tyrone Linares finished to make it 4–2 and briefly shift momentum. But Suriname restored their three‑goal cushion in the 37th minute, with Dors scoring his fourth goal of the half.
Belize nearly added a third just before the break. With the Suriname goalkeeper out of position in the 44th minute, Belize attempted a long‑range effort from half field, but the shot rolled wide.
The U20 BMNT need a strong response in the second halto climb back into the match.
