By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s U17 Men’s National Team started with promise but ultimately fell 3–1 to El Salvador on Friday night at Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City as Group F of the Concacaf U17 Qualifiers continued. Captain Marlon Meza Jr. led the U17 BMNT in their opening match of the tournament.
Belize struck first in the 12th minute when Andy Pop finished a well‑constructed play created by Jordan Glenn, giving Belize an early lead and rewarding their energetic start.
El Salvador responded through Andrew Sorto, who turned the match around with a first‑half hat trick. Sorto equalised in the 20th minute, put El Salvador ahead in the 35th, and completed his treble in first‑half stoppage time (45+1′), sending Belize into the break trailing 3–1.
Belize tightened defensively in the second half and pushed forward in search of a comeback, but El Salvador managed the tempo and protected their advantage to secure the three points.
Earlier in the day, Cuba defeated Curaçao 1–0, meaning Belize now face a crucial match on Sunday to stay in contention.
Fridat night marked the first-ever U17 Concacaf meeting between Belize and El Salvador. Belize enter this edition after falling to Nicaragua in 2025, while El Salvador came in with a historical record of one draw and one loss at this level.
