By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U17 Belize Women’s National Team (U17 BWNT) delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday as they defeated Dominica 3–0 in their second match of the CONCACAF U17 Qualifiers. The Belize side responded impressively after their opening‑day 6-0 setback to hosts Nicaragua.
Belize were in control from early on and went into halftime with a 2–0 advantage, both goals coming from Kiana Lewis in the 24th and 30th minutes. According to the CONCACAF livestream, Lewis’s opener came from a well‑timed assist by Betsy Pérez, who have been playing an excellent match for Belize. Pérez’s work rate, composure, and decision‑making in midfield have stood out throughout the tournament, and her contribution once again proved decisive in unlocking the Dominica defence. The second goal was created by a long, accurate pass from Sophie Ellis, who picked out Lewis in stride.
Belize continued to dictate the match in the second half and were rewarded when Jolene Arnada scored in the 79th minute, sealing a confident and disciplined victory.
The win lifts Belize to three points in Group E as they prepare for their remaining fixtures. The U17 BWNT face the Dominican Republic on Friday at 7:00 pm, before closing out group play against the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday at 4:00 pm.
The result marks an important step forward for the young Belizean side as they continue to gain valuable international experience and proudly represent the country on the regional stage.
