The U16 Belize Boys National Team (BBNT) wrapped up their run at the 2025 UNCAF FIFA Forward U16 Boys Tournament with a heavy 8–0 defeat to Panama on Wednesday at the Centro Deportivo Ernesto Villa in Guatemala City. The result marks Belize’s worst loss in the tournament’s history and confirms their eighth-place finish.
Panama, also out of medal contention, closed their campaign with a dominant performance—overwhelming Belize from start to finish in what the Panamanian Football Federation, Fepafut Panama, dubbed “¡VICTORIA POR GOLEADA!” (“VICTORY BY A LANDSLIDE!”).
Despite the scoreline, Belize’s young squad showed flashes of promise earlier in the week. Their lone goal came in Monday’s 6–1 loss to El Salvador, when Marlon Meza Jr. fired a left-footed strike from outside the box in the 39th minute—Belize’s first and only goal of the tournament.

Belize finished bottom of Group B with zero points, one goal scored, and 12 conceded. Their –19 goal difference reflected the uphill battle faced against more seasoned regional sides.
Costa Rica Crowned Champions In the tournament final
In the tournament final, Costa Rica edged hosts Guatemala with a dramatic last-minute goal to claim the UNCAF U16 title on Wednesday. The tightly contested match remained deadlocked until the final moments, when Costa Rica broke through to secure a 1–0 victory and lift the championship trophy.
While Belize’s campaign ended in disappointment, the experience gained at the Centro Deportivo Ernesto Villa will serve as a foundation for future development. Competing against the region’s best offered valuable lessons in pace, positioning, and composure—elements the coaching staff should look to build on in the months ahead.
