By Aaron Humes: On Tuesday, Belizean fugitive Ellis Meighan was extradited to Belize to face multiple charges, including murder.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Belize, this operation highlights the successful collaboration between U.S. and Belizean authorities in the pursuit of justice.
The Embassy lauded the efforts of both nations, stating, “You can run, but you can’t outrun the law… This is a clear message: fugitives cannot escape justice. Crossing borders illegally won’t protect you.”
Upon his arrival in Belize, Meighan was met by local law enforcement, ready to proceed with the charges against him.
Meighan, wanted for questioning by police in Placencia in the murder of Roy Lee Burgess and attempted murder of Maia James, was apparently caught trying to illegally enter the United States.
Meighan has been sought by police since April 15, 2024. According to online records, he was detained at a detention center in San Diego, California.
