By Zoila Palma: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters are currently investigating Tropical Storm Jerry, which is located about 355 miles (570 kilometers) east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
At the time of the update, Jerry had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts and was moving west-northwest at 20 mph (31 km/h).
Forecasters expect the storm to turn northwest later today, followed by a slower, more northward track on Friday and Saturday.
Based on current projections, the center of Jerry is expected to pass near or northeast of the northern Leeward Islands later today and tonight.
Meteorologists predict gradual strengthening over the next few days, with Jerry potentially becoming a hurricane by late Friday or Saturday.
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin, Sint Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius, Guadeloupe, and adjacent islands as Jerry continues its approach toward the northeastern Caribbean.
