By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Tyler Tejeda, who on January 1, 2023, emerged victorious in a thrilling eight-man sprint to capture 32nd Krem’s New Year’s Day Junior Cycling Classic, will be going for another Junior win come January 1, 2024.
This year, Tejeda clocked three hours, two minutes, and 10 seconds (3:02:10) in winning the 52-mile ride from Orange Walk to Belize City via the Philip Goldson Highway. G-Flow’s Jamar Murry clinched second place, unattached rider Delton Rojas took third, and Team Gonz’s Stephen Sylvester rode in fourth. Evrit Matute Jr. and Benito Gutierrez of G-Flow claimed the fifth and sixth positions respectively. Team Cayo’s Richard Rosado was seventh and unattached Ivan Usher was eighth. They all registered at the same time as Tejeda.
G-Flow riders Devyn Major and Jaylen Briceño rode in ninth and tenth in 3:02:27. Major was first in the Junior-Youth Category.
Khyron Staine finished 11th in 3:02:56. He was second in the Junior-Youth Category behind Major. He finished 46 seconds behind Tejeda.
Tejada, Murry, and Rojas were the top three Junior riders. Major and Staine were the top two in the Junior-Youth category.
