Two young men remanded to prison until March for unlicensed firearm

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two young men from the Fabers Road area of Belize City were remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Monday afternoon after being arraigned in the lower court on firearm and ammunition charges.

The accused—18-year-old Tyshuan Duran of Faber Road Extension and 19-year-old Caleem Williams of Jaguar Avenue—pleaded not guilty to charges of keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Despite their pleas, both were remanded to prison until March 16, 2026.

Police allege that on Friday, January 9, 2026, the duo were found in possession of a black and chrome Taurus brand 9mm pistol along with six live rounds of 9mm ammunition. The firearm, police say, was discovered hidden by a gas tank in the yard of a residence on Rio Bravo Crescent, Belize City. Investigators further allege that neither man held a valid gun license issued by the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board of Belize.

According to police, at about 10:30 p.m. on the night in question, members of the Gang Intelligence Investigation and Interdiction Unit (G13 Strike Team) were conducting operations on Rio Bravo Crescent when their attention was drawn to the two young men standing at the entrance of a verandah of a concrete yellow bungalow. Officers reported observing suspicious behavior, prompting a search of the men for illegal firearms.

While nothing incriminating was found on their persons, police say an officer noticed a gas tank about two to three feet away, barely concealing the 9mm pistol. Both men were then arrested, informed of the allegation, and escorted to the police station, where they were formally charged.

Police say the firearm contained six live rounds of ammunition at the time of discovery.
