By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two 17-year-old girls and a 21-year-old woman were arraigned in Belize City Magistrate Court on Tuesday on a charge of harm, following an alleged attack on an 18-year-old woman over a dispute involving a man.
The accused, including 21-year-old Tamara Gillett of Flamboyant Street, Belize City, appeared before the Senior Magistrate unrepresented. One of the teenagers pleaded guilty, while the other entered a guilty plea with an explanation, and Gillett pleaded not guilty, claiming she only recorded the fight on her phone and did not participate.
The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, when the 18-year-old victim visited the Neal’s Pen Road Basketball Court. According to her statement, she was confronted by one of the minors, who accused her of being involved with “her friend’s man.” The altercation escalated when all three defendants allegedly chased her and beat her up.
Police arrived on the scene and detained the three women. The Senior Magistrate accepted the guilty plea of one minor and ordered a social report to determine her sentence, which could range from a fine to community service or detention at the New Beginnings facility.
The other minor and Gillett were offered bail of $500 and $1,000, respectively, with strict conditions, including an 8:00 p.m. curfew for the minors and a no-contact order with the victim. All defendants were also prohibited from distributing the video footage of the incident, with the court warning that any breach of bail conditions would lead to revocation.
The case continues as the court awaits further proceedings.
