By Zoila Palma: Two officers from the Belize Police Department have officially joined the ranks of Belize’s elite tactical units after successfully completing one of the country’s most demanding military-style training programs.
Detective Constable W. Choc (DC 1856) and Police Constable Akieme Arana (PC 52) graduated from the Special Operations Close Combat Course (SOCCC), a grueling 4-month program hosted by the Belize Defence Force’s Special Operations Training Unit (SOTU).
Out of more than 100 applicants, only 20 candidates made it through to the end, underscoring the difficulty and intensity of the course.
The SOCCC focuses on advanced tactical skills, including jungle survival, close-quarters combat, advanced marksmanship, and high-stress decision-making. Both officers completed the course with distinction, demonstrating exceptional physical endurance, mental resilience, and tactical proficiency.
A formal graduation ceremony was held on May 22, 2025, and attended by high-ranking officials from the Belize Defence Force, Belize Police Department, and Belize Coast Guard.
The Belize Police Department expressed immense pride in Officers Choc and Arana, praising their discipline, commitment, and drive to enhance their operational capabilities.
