By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City men are on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being busted with 33.5 grams of marijuana and being unable to make bail.
Selvin Waight and Rudolph Craig Jr., appeared in court on unrepresented on Tuesday and were each read a single count of possession of a controlled drug. Waight pleaded not guilty while Craig Jr. initially pleaded guilty but later disagreed with the facts of the case. The court then entered a not guilty plea on Craig Jr.’s behalf.
The men were offered bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount but it was discovered they each had outstanding fines from previous charges. Waight still owed over $1,600 from a previous $2,000 fine stemming from a charge in 2020. He was orde3red to pay $1,000 in order to make bail which he could not.
Craig Jr. also owed the court over $800 for fines stemming from charges in 2021. He was ordered to settle his fine before he could make bail, which he did not. The men were remanded to prison until February 28. The men were arrested after police conducted a search at a home in Belama on New Year’s Eve.
