By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged two men in connection with an armed robbery at the Western Gas Station in the Chula Vista area that occurred on February 18. The suspects, identified as Jair Rancharan, 20, and Armando Villanueva, 37, both of Corozal Town, were apprehended within an hour of the incident.
In addition to the robbery charges, Rancharan faces further charges for possessing a firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a license, and possessing a firearm with a removed serial number.
The robbery unfolded around 2:27 p.m. when the two men entered the gas station, one of whom was armed with a firearm. They threatened the attendant before demanding the proceeds of the day’s sales. Fearing for their safety, the attendant complied, and the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police were notified and immediately dispatched an investigative team to the gas station. Utilizing CCTV footage and coordinating a joint operational team, police launched a dragnet in the vicinity. The efforts were bolstered by drone technology that aided in tracking the suspects effectively.
Less than an hour after the robbery, police located and apprehended Rancharan and Villanueva. During the arrest, officers discovered a .38 revolver with six live rounds in Rancharan’s possession, and Villanueva was found with items believed to be the stolen cash. ASP Smith noted that the firearm recovered was reported stolen from a security guard during a robbery in December 2025.
