Twenty one National Fire Service members honored for long service in Belize

By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of the Public Service and Disaster Risk Management honored 21 members of the National Fire Service (NFS) with Long Service Awards on Friday, February 13, 2026, recognizing their dedication and service to the people of Belize.

The awardees were celebrated for reaching key service milestones of 10, 15, 20, and 25 years while consistently going above and beyond in the execution of their duties.

Among those recognized were 7 firefighters marking 10 years of service; 3officers with 15 years, including two Radio-Telephone Operators and one Finance Officer III; four Leading Firefighters with 20 years; and seven senior personnel with 25 years of service.

The latter group included a Radio-Telephone Operator, Leading Firefighters, Station Officers, a Substation Officer, and an Assistant Fire Chief.

The awards were presented by Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service and Disaster Risk Management, alongside the Ministry’s Chief Executive Officer Rolando Zetina and Fire Chief Colin Gillett.

In his remarks, Minister Usher commended the honourees for their courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that firefighting is not merely a profession but a calling that demands sacrifice and resilience.

Fire Chief Gillett also recognized the vital support provided by the families of the awardees. Following the ceremony, the Minister and CEO toured the new National Fire Service Headquarters in Belize City, inspecting the modern facility and meeting with officers and staff as part of the government’s continued push to strengthen institutional capacity and improve working conditions for fire personnel nationwide.
