By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 45-year-old Belize City maintenance worker is spending Christmas behind bars after being busted on Christmas Eve and convicted of theft and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, marking his third conviction for theft and adding to a long criminal record for dishonesty.
Carl Sebastian Parham, also known as “Coolie Buoy,” appeared unrepresented before Mannon Dennison in Court #6, where he pleaded guilty to a single charge of theft.
Parham admitted to stealing two purses belonging to a young woman, which contained cash-value items and personal documents totaling $755. The stolen items included jewelry, ATM cards, identification cards, and multiple gold and silver pieces.
In court, Parham claimed he believed the bag of jewelry belonged to no one, stating that he saw a large plastic bag behind a door while visiting an old school friend and did not know it belonged to his friend’s daughter. The court heard that the stolen property belonged to a domestic of Dolphin Street, Belize City.
According to police, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had dropped off her two purses outside her door around 5:45 a.m. When she went outside minutes later, the bags were missing. She told police she saw Parham walking away from her yard with one of the purses.
Police investigations led to Parham’s detention, during which officers recovered several of the woman’s stolen items in his possession.
During sentencing, the prosecutor informed the court that Parham has five previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty, including theft, robbery, attempted burglary, and drug-related offenses dating back to 2006. Taking his criminal history into account, Magistrate Dennison imposed a six-month custodial sentence and recommended that Parham enroll in a drug rehabilitation program while incarcerated.
Parham began serving his sentence immediately and will spend the Christmas holidays at the Belize Central Prison.
