By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The stage is set for Tut Bay to face Caesar Ridge in the Belize District Football Association First Division Closing Championship final on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
Tut Bay enters the final as the top team from the regular season, looking to cap off their strong campaign with the championship trophy. They booked their place in the title match last Sunday with a 1-0 win over Kelly St. Bombers in the semifinals, courtesy of an early strike from Esmond Sanker in the 10th minute. Despite relentless pressure from Kelly St. Bombers, Tut Bay’s defensive discipline ensured their progression to the grand finale.
Meanwhile, Caesar Ridge finished the regular season as the second-best team and faced a grueling test against Reggae Boyz in the semifinals, ultimately prevailing 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 2-2 draw in extra time. The high-intensity matchup saw Ryan Simpson giving Reggae Boyz an early advantage in the 10th minute, but Francis Arana responded for Caesar Ridge in the 22nd. Arana struck again in the 94th minute, seemingly securing victory, but a dramatic 111th-minute equalizer by Kiefer Perteau forced penalties. Caesar Ridge held their nerve in the shootout, converting five spot-kicks to Reggae Boyz’ four to secure their place in the final.
The championship game will be preceded by the third-place match between Reggae Boyz and Kelly St. Bombers.
