Truck driver charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend granted $400 bail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old truck driver is out on bail after being accused by his “baby mama” of assault.

John James Perriott Sr., a truck and bus driver of Sandhill Village, was arraigned yesterday afternoon in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. He appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read a single charge of common assault.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Mile 19 ¾, Perriott Sr. committed an assault upon his ex-girlfriend.

Perriott Sr. pleaded not guilty to the charge. With no objection to bail, he was granted bail in the sum of $400 plus one surety of the same amount.

When asked by the court whether he was related to the virtual complainant, Perriott Sr. responded that she is his “baby mama.”

As part of his bail conditions, the Senior Magistrate ordered that Perriott Sr. must not interfere with the virtual complainant or any members of her family. He is also prohibited from interfering with any prosecution witnesses and must remain at least 25 feet away from the complainant.

Perriott Sr., who was able to meet bail, is due back in court on April 17, 2026.
