By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belizeans woke up to cloudy skies this morning as a weak tropical wave moved across the country, bringing a slight increase in moisture and unstable conditions.
The National Meteorological Service reports that the weather will remain cloudy at times throughout the day, with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms expected in most areas. The highest concentration of activity will be along the coast during the day and will shift to the southern coastal areas later tonight.
Forecaster Shanea Young says that while this system is relatively weak, it’s enough to disrupt the fair weather pattern that had been holding earlier in the week. Despite the increased rainfall, there is no tropical cyclone formation expected over the next 48 hours across the North Atlantic Basin.
Temperatures are forecasted to reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 92 inland, and 80 in the hills. Overnight lows are expected to drop to 80 along the coast, 74 inland, and 68 in the hills. Winds are blowing from the east at 10 to 20 knots and the sea state is moderate with wave heights between four and six feet.
The weather outlook for Saturday indicates that a few showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to affect southern and coastal areas.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates as this passing tropical wave could lead to localized downpours.
