Posted: Monday, October 13, 2025. 10:15 am CST.

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Tropical Storm Lorenzo gained strength as it moved across the central tropical Atlantic, with maximum sustained winds now reaching 50 mph (85 km/h), according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

As of 11 a.m. AST, the storm was centered near latitude 14.8° North and longitude 41.2° West, moving northwest at about 16 mph (26 km/h). Forecasters expect Lorenzo’s forward speed to gradually decrease through the night, followed by a turn toward the north on Tuesday.

While little change in strength is expected through early Tuesday, the NHC said some gradual intensification is possible by midweek.

Tropical-storm-force winds currently extend up to 160 miles (260 km) from the center, though the system remains far from land and poses no immediate threat to coastal areas.
