Tropical Storm Isaias forms in the Gulf, no direct impact on Belize

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Tropical Storm Isaias has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, but forecasters say Belize is not expected to be directly affected.

At 3:00am today, Isaias was located near latitude 22.0 North, longitude 94.1 West, about 285 miles west of Progreso, Mexico. The storm was moving east at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

The system developed from the trough of low pressure the National Meteorological Service had been monitoring in the southwestern Gulf earlier this week.

The Met Service says Isaias is not expected to have a direct impact on Belize, but residents are encouraged to stay informed through official updates.

Locally, a light and relatively moist airflow is in place. Today will be sunny with some cloudy spells, becoming partly cloudy to cloudy at times tonight.

Showers will be generally isolated, with a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms developing over the Maya Mountains this afternoon. Tonight, a few showers or thunderstorms could affect mostly inland areas at first, then gradually move across the country overnight.

Today’s forecast was issued by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
