By Horace Palacio: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area of low pressure, designated AL94, located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands in the eastern tropical Atlantic. The system has weakened slightly, with showers and thunderstorms diminishing over the past few hours.
Although current conditions are not conducive to immediate development, the system is expected to move westward to west-southwestward across the tropical Atlantic. Forecasters predict that environmental conditions may become more favorable by mid to late week, increasing the potential for gradual development.
The NHC has assessed a 10% chance of development within the next 48 hours and a 30% chance over the next 7 days. While the system is not a direct threat at this time, Belizeans should remain alert to its progress, as it could become more organized over the coming days.
