By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three young men, including two 15-year-old minors and a 19-year-old, are in custody after being charged with armed robbery in their Hattieville neighborhood. The minors have been sent to the New Beginnings Youth Facility, while 19-year-old Sergio Cruz, a mechanic and construction worker from the Bainsville area, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
The trio appeared before the Senior Magistrate in Court #2 earlier today, where they were charged with one count of robbery. The minors were represented by a social worker from the Community Rehabilitation Department and accompanied by relatives. All three pleaded not guilty.
The allegations state that on Monday, November 12, 2024, the group, armed with a firearm, entered Roby Restaurant, located at Mile 17 ½ on the George Price Highway, and robbed a woman of valuables, including a Samsung A15 cellphone valued at $4,000, a black iPhone 6 valued at $400, and an undisclosed sum of cash in various denominations.
Due to the seriousness of the charge, bail was denied, and all three were remanded until their next court appearance, scheduled for January 6, 2025.
The incident has left the Hattieville community shaken, with many expressing concern over the involvement of minors in such a serious crime.
