By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police responded to a disturbing incident Friday night after reports that a man had ingested rat poison in Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk.
Officials say that around 9:45 p.m. on March 6, 2026, information was received that a male person had allegedly consumed rat poison at a residence in the community.
Police visited the home of a 31-year-old AC technician, who reported that his 23-year-old brother had been drinking alcohol earlier in the night with a cousin.
According to the report, the younger man arrived home around 9:30 p.m. intoxicated and holding a pack of rat poison. The older brother said he immediately snatched the poison from his hand and ran off with it to prevent him from consuming it.
However, the man reportedly licked some of the poison that remained on his hand.
About an hour later, police were called to the Northern Regional Hospital after the man allegedly began causing a disturbance at the facility.
When officers arrived, the man reportedly told them he had taken the poison and wanted to die. He then refused medical attention and walked out of the hospital with family members
