By Aaron Humes: Belize City police seek Tremett Lopez in relation to a report by a Belize City resident who says she was defrauded out of $1,600 while attempting to purchase a high-end smartphone.

A resident of Mahogany Street reported to police that on January 9, while browsing the Belize Buy & Sell page on Facebook, she came across a listing for a Rose Gold iPhone 16 Pro Max advertised for $1,800. The seller negotiated the price down to $1,600.

After agreeing to the terms, she enlisted the help of her coworker to transfer the cash from his Atlantic Bank account to a Belize Bank account belonging to a Tremett Saan Lopez, as directed by the seller. Following the transfer, which was conducted online, she expected to receive the device via Tropic Air cargo.

However, after completing the transaction, she has neither received the iPhone nor heard from the seller. Police have prepared a wanted poster for the alleged scammer. They sent out an information request to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and conducted checks at the residence of the suspected fraudster, but have yet to find him.
