Travel firm tries to bribe Haaland with free holidays for life

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): How do you stop the most feared striker at the World Cup? One English travel company reckons the answer is not a defender, but a sun lounger.

According to the Daily Star, travel firm On the Beach has offered Norway superstar Erling Haaland ten free holidays a year for life, worth millions of pounds, for him, his family, and his friends, to more than 280 destinations around the world. There is just one very cheeky catch. He has to take the first one this Saturday, the very day Norway face England in their World Cup quarter-final showdown in Miami, and it can be anywhere but Miami.

The tongue-in-cheek stunt comes as England brace themselves for the tournament’s most in-form striker. Haaland has been in devastating touch, banging in seven goals so far, which puts him joint top of the golden boot race alongside Argentina’s Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappé. England captain Harry Kane sits just one behind on six.

Belizean fans will remember exactly how dangerous the Norwegian can be. It was Haaland’s Norway who produced one of the shocks of the tournament, stunning five-time world champions Brazil with a dramatic 2-1 win, sealed by two late goals, to book their place in the last eight.

The firm’s holiday expert, Caspar Nelson, laid out the offer with a wink. “Erling has worked incredibly hard this summer and, frankly, he looks like he deserves a break,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Star. “We would be delighted to send him, his family and his friends on holiday for the rest of his life. There is only one small catch. He has to take the first one this Saturday and it has to be anywhere but Miami.” He even had a destination in mind, noting, “We hear Mauritius, on the complete opposite side of the world, is a lovely destination.”

The company says Haaland has until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, before the team sheets are announced, to accept, and all he needs to do is show up at their head office, which happens to be in his home city of Manchester, where they will “organise the paperwork.”

It is, of course, all in good fun, and safe to say Haaland will not be trading a World Cup quarter-final for a beach towel. But it says everything about the fear he has struck into England hearts that some are only half joking about sending him on vacation.

So Belize, if you were Haaland, would you take the holidays or chase the World Cup? And who wins Saturday, Norway or England? Comment below.
