By Zoila Palma: Today, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Transport Chester Williams said that the Ministry and the Government of Belize are implementing legislation to properly address the use of motorcycles and other vehicles on our highways.
“We believe that our society has outgrown our current laws which do not provide adequate fines that serve as a strong deterrent to those who drive without due regards to the law and the punishment from breaking them. While we believe that the current amendments will serve as strong deterrent, we also know that it will require more that new laws to change the current situation,” Williams said.
However, Williams noted that it will require aggressive enforcements and greater responsibility on the part of drivers.
“Thus we are appealing to all drivers to kindly exercise extreme care when using our road ways. You must always drive with due consideration for other road users, saving your lives and ensuring you get home safe to your families must always be of paramount importance,” Williams added.
