The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries announced the successful completion of the first cohort of the Traffic Enforcement Training Program, held at the National Police Training Academy in Belmopan.
The Ministry said that the 3 week training was hosted by the Belize Police Department and brought together twenty-eight officers from various traffic units and the Department of Transport across the country. Participants represented a wide national cross section, including officers from Corozal, Orange Walk, Belize City, San Pedro, Belmopan, and Toledo.
“This comprehensive training focused on strengthening the operational, legal, and professional capacity of traffic enforcement officers. Modules covered included the Belize Constitution, police powers, road traffic laws, case file preparation, accident response, courtroom procedure, and ethics in enforcement. Participants also received training in communication, conflict management, and physical readiness,” the Ministry noted.
Participating officers applied these skills during a practical checkpoint operation, issuing over two hundred citations in under eight hours. This outcome reflects the confidence and enforcement ability gained through the course and reinforces the value of structured training in advancing public safety and road compliance.
During the closing ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Kareem Musa congratulated the graduates and commended the joint effort between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Transport. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration and consistent enforcement practices to improve road safety and public trust.
“This training gives officers the tools to perform their duties with clarity, professionalism, and discipline. It reflects the kind of unified approach we need across enforcement agencies, and I commend everyone who contributed to its success,” said Minister Musa.
The Ministry recognizes the contributions of the instructors, facilitators, and coordinators at the National Police Training Academy, and extends its appreciation to the Department of Transport for its partnership. Continued investment in officer development remains a priority for the Ministry in support of public safety and responsible enforcement across Belize.
