By Aaron Humes: An 18-year-old student, Jonni Cano, tragically lost his life in a traffic accident on Thursday, October 16. The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Saint Jude and Saint Matthews Streets in the San Martin area.

Cano was riding a motorcycle with fellow student Jamin Patt when a Westline bus collided with them, throwing both students from the bike. While Patt is in stable condition at Western Regional Hospital, Cano succumbed to his injuries.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. “No alcohol testing has been done,” she noted. “However, we have retrieved video footage of the incident, which we believe will aid significantly in our investigation.”

In connection with the incident, 23-year-old Jonathan Estrada from San Ignacio Town has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
