By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, the Alliance for Democracy hosted a national convention in Belize City.

Panton claimed that supporters and delegates of the UDP gathered to let their voices heard.

“I want to thank all UDP supporters and delegates who came out in record numbers. Their voices were clear and loud. Their voices were heard.

The convention could not have been successful without that kind of support for the kind of changes ad reform that is required in the United Democratic Party so we can remain competitive in the upcoming general elections,” Panton said.

Panton says that the convention was held at the request of delegates and at the request of those delegates that triggered the recall of the “former party leader.”

Panton also responded to concerns that the UDP claimed the convention was unconstitutional.

“How do you say no to 347 delegates. The former party leader who keeps saying that these people are not legitimate have been going to them and campaigning to them. Saying please no do me this. So if these people were so illegitimate why would he visit them and try to incentivize them to stay away from the UDP convention. The delegates were clear and I am very pleased that we had dissenting voices at the convention,” Panton said.
