By Zoila Palma: Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler and tourism partners are representing Belize at the World Travel Market (WTM) London, taking place November 3–5.
During a session on November 4, 2026, Minister Mahler publicly protested the use of a Guatemalan map at the Guatemala booth that includes Belize as part of their country.
“Look right across from us, you have the Guatemala booth. There is a map showing Belize as a part of Guatemala. They have an unfounded claim on Belize. I don’t think that this platform should be used to express political views and they should remove that map showing Belize as a part of Guatemala,” Mahler said.
“We have been an independent nation since 1981, we have all our borders in tact,” he added.
Minister Mahler emphasized to the ministerial panel that Belize is an independent and sovereign nation and that the use of such a map is unacceptable.
